I loved it because the tale touched my heart; the characters lived on the pages, so real. Yocum is a great story teller. A wonderfully original group of characters and a fast moving plot kept this book interesting and intriguing. Angels exist in this tale in the form of Miss Singletary and Jimmy Lee’s football coach. It reminded everyone of someone in their lives who believed in them, who created a turning point in their lives. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. The writing is excellent, and the story is believable and at the same time incredible.

It is so well written and an interesting story of a young man who overcomes his upbringing to become successful. But who were the characters with more nuance? This book was recommended to me by a dear fellow reader. However, if you don’t know the region and think it’s just “Ohio-the Buckeye state”, you are in for a treat as that’s not quite the right feel.
